My Personal Review

RAINA BEACH APARTMENTS

Ara Tapu (main road), Tikioki, Titikaveka, Rarotonga.

Raina Beach Apartments are a great choice for budget accommodation when visiting Rarotonga. This property consists of the main building and a few extra units close to the main building.

Sleeping space available for 1-2 people in a unit or in a beach apartment up to a large family or group of 7 in an apartment of the main 3 storey building. This makes it a handy place to stay for any sized family. In the apartment there are 2 queen size beds and 3 singles that make up the sleeping arrangements and a kitchen making it handy to cook your own meals.

Staff are very helpful and friendly taking us on a little tour of the grounds, even explaining the tsunami alarm that is on top level of the building. Enjoy the 360 degree views up here of both the lagoon in front and mountains behind.

In an almost perfect location on the island, the main building sits directly across the road from one of my favourite snorkelling beaches in Tikioki. A great spot for all lazy water activities as it’s a very quiet beach and part of the lagoon.

This is accessible through the public open area where the toilets are. Kayaks are available for use to Raina guests, handy when travelling on a budget to avoid hire costs. A water station is also located across the road to use for drinking and cooking.

We had 2 nights at Raina Beach apartments. On the first night we arrived to check in at 11pm and after wandering around for a few minutes the on site manager showed us to our room. It was a ground level apartment in the main building. We thanked him and spent the next few minutes checking out the apartment... as you do.

I was very surprised to see that the apartment could sleep up to 7 people. It looked to be an old accommodation building, maybe built in the very early 70’s and needing a little update here and there. It had everything we needed for our stay and decided this would be a great place to bring the kids without spending a fortune!

Although we didn’t cook any meals, the kitchen was adequate for a family to look after themselves cooking all meals if needed. The beds were ok and all linen was clean.

On the second night we were offered the 1bedroom unit just a few hundred metres from the main building. A group of girls arrived and we gave up our apartment for them and enjoyed a night in the unit. This unit was smaller only sleeping 2 people and was a quieter location just off the main road. It had a very comfy king size bed, full kitchen, bathroom and plenty of space. We didn’t mind moving as we were able to stay here for the same price.

All accommodation has screened windows and doors. There is no air conditioning in any of the rooms but ceiling fans are in each room. All curtains are quite thin but not see through. I was very happy staying at this property and think it’s a great style of accommodation when travelling on the cheap.

Staying at Raina will keep your sleeping costs down if staying only a few days or for your entire trip, it’s a fantastic budget choice providing all of the basic needs for your stay. We paid a low price of just $99 p.n. for 2 people in an apartment.

At this location and price you’re guaranteed to have an affordable stay.
