ATUPA ORCHID UNITS

Ara Metua, Avarua, Rarotonga.

On check-in, Ingrid was there to greet us. She was lovely and very welcoming showing us to the “Blue Unit’ we had booked for 3 nights. This was the most affordable accommodation during our recent stay and we found it very suitable!

The property is located in Avarua, one street back from the main road. It's close to the airport and only a 10 minute walk to the main town where you’ll find everything you need. A quieter location for traffic but we found slightly noisier for roosters. The rooms are situated down a driveway with studio units backing on to each other but still remaining private. If you’re here in October you may see the orchids in bloom.

Our studio unit was great for 2 people, facing the open front yard of the property with no other buildings in front view. It was in a nice location and we saved a lot of money staying here and not being right on the beach. Sometimes it’s nice to opt for some cheaper nights away from the ocean and into a garden setting among the locals going about their days, it was peaceful.

The Blue Unit was set out perfectly. It consisted of one bedroom with a bathroom and an outdoor kitchen at the front allowing you to cook your own meals. It also had a microwave, toaster, small fridge and kettle inside the unit. A pedestal fan and screened louvered windows provide enough airflow and mosquito protection, as well as mozzie coils for guests to burn. The bathroom is very clean and we had our towels changed and bed made each day.

This was the cleanest place I have stayed in. Ingrid takes great pride in her accommodation and keeps them well maintained. She has recently updated the mattress in the Blue Unit and this prompted me to up this recommendation to a very high one.

I’m yet to find a cheaper price to stay in self contained accommodation, as it’s the cheapest I’ve found in Rarotonga. We paid a low $75 pn for 2 people. Ingrid lives on site at the back of the property and is always willing to help guests if needed.

The rooster population was bigger on this property giving us a rooster medley early every morning… but that’s ok, who wants to sleep in while in Rarotonga anyway? Carpe Diem. Get up and go exploring, swimming, hiking, shopping, eating, learning and just have a great stay.

I highly recommend the Blue Unit for 2 people at Atupa Orchid Units. I just loved the little kitchen area outside. A1 cleanliness, comfy and private but most of all, VERY AFFORDABLE!!
